Get Involved

The DAASV remains one of Dartmouth’s most active alumni organizations, one that is enormously indebted to its talented and energetic volunteer base. On occasion, we have volunteer and leadership opportunities available, and we’d warmly welcome your participation — in fact, we’d encourage it! Whether you’d like to become actively engaged, or just have a few hours here and there, we have myriad ways that you can become involved. If you spot a volunteer or leadership opportunity that piques your interest, please contact the chairperson listed below for more information!

Events Committee

Events have long been one the DAASV’s hallmarks. You can see from our Events page that the DAASV always has myriad event offerings and activities; however, we can always use help developing, organizing, and running our programs. If you are creative, and have strong event planning skills, we’d love to hear from you. Join the committee.

Graduate School Alum Committee

The Graduate School Alumni Committee is the local alumni leadership for Tuck School of Business, Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth Medical School, and Dartmouth’s Arts & Sciences Graduate Programs. The committee advises the DAASV Board on how best to engage graduate school alumni with each other as well as the larger Dartmouth Community. These leaders also work together to create their own events to engage alumni, and play an active role in events held for Graduate School alumni in the greater Bay Area. Join the committee.

Members:
Katherine Loarie T’09 (co-chair), Ken Hauck E’85 (co-chair), and Jon Jacob T’88.

Golf Committee

The Golf Committee plans and executes the annual DAASV Golf Tournament held in Pebble Beach. While the purpose of the tournament is social, it also serves as an ideal opportunity for the DAASV to raise funds for Dartmouth’s Peak Performance (DP2) initiative, to enhance event programming for members throughout the year, and to expose and recruit non-members to our organization. Committee members work closely with Alumni Relations to develop the welcome reception, awards dinner, and educational programming. It solicits input from golf professionals, resort personnel, and alumni membership to determine the course and the rules of play. The committee is also responsible for securing sponsorships, recruiting golfers, coordinating tournament highlights, and promoting the event. Join the committee.

Members:
Jim Knopf ’89 (co-chair), Corinna Knight ’93 (co-chair), and James von Rittmann ’95 (co-chair).

Sponsorship Committee

Sponsorship plays an important role in the quality and diversity of the DAASV’s event offerings and membership programs. Sponsors greatly benefit from a brand’s exposure to, and integration among, our membership audience. Interested in introducing your brand to our membership? Please contact our Sponsorship Committee Chairperson. Join the committee.

Parents Committee

Parents, be they alumni or not, are among the most enthusiastic Dartmouth supporters in the Silicon Valley. Some of you are new to the process of packing your child off to the “College on the hill”, while others are now experts at it. Parents routinely express an interest in getting together to share advice and revel in their children’s Dartmouth experiences, as well as thier own. (After all, you will be getting to Hanover every now and then, now won’t you?). Join the committee.

Membership (and Fundraising) Committee

Each year, membership contributions play a significant role in the DAASV’s ability to plan high-value events and programs for our Silicon Valley audience. As an entity that is independent from the College, the DAASV survives on the generosity of our local alumni. This committee is charged with designing and executing both our new and renewal membership campaigns. Join the committee.

Members:
James von Rittmann ’95 (chair) and Linda Plumb.

Community Service Committee

Have a passion for serving the Silicon Valley community alongside other Dartmouth friends and families? Would you like to participate in or help organize DAASV community services projects? Join the committee.

Members:
Janet Kluczynski ’77 (chair) and James Young ’70 T’77.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee is a standing committee that meets each fall to solicit applications for future DAASV Board Members. Potential Board Members are interviewed by the committee, briefed as to the expectations associated with serving on the board, and from there, the committee presents a slate to the current Board of Directors for a vote at the Annual Meeting in January. Join the committee.

Members:
Alan Gaynor MD ’67 (chair), Janet Kluczynski ’77, and Ashley McCaughan ’04.

Communications Committee

The DAASV regularly posts special announcements, networking opportunities, and event updates. The committee also sends postcards and e-newsletters to all members in the greater Silicon Valley area and beyond. We utilize a number of different communication channels to do so, including an up-to-date website and mobile-site, smartphone app (in iTunes and Android Marketplace), email, newsletters, and social networking venues.

The DAASV database is set up such that managing your subscription to all Club communications is easy. To be included, simply follow one of these steps:

  • Update your email address and contact information in the Dartmouth Alumni Directory, or
  • Email your name, Dartmouth class, email address, and contact information to the Alumni Records Office, or
  • If you’d prefer to have your DAASV communication sent to a different email address from what the College has on file, or you wish to have communication sent to an additional email address, please send an email outlining your request to DAASV President James von Rittmann ’95.

Join the committee. We also encourage you to join the DAASV’s LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter groups.

Alumni Interviewers

Interviewing Dartmouth applicants is among the most gratifying, enjoyable and important ways to give back to the College. You and others on your interviewing team present prospective students with the College’s human face. You have the opportunity to meet Dartmouth’s future as well as fellow alumni. And, of course, you serve as the Admissions Office’s eyes and ears in learning more about the applicants.

Interviewers typically give an evening in early November to talk to Early Decision Candidates, and two or three evenings during January and February for Regular Decision applicants. Some do more. Some do less.

The DAASV currently sponsors two receptions a year. We host one in early spring for students who’ve been admitted. A second reception is held in the summer for accepted students and their parents. In addition, the DAASV hosts an annual pizza party in Hanover for the Bay Area students to get together while on campus.

Interested? Excellent! Please contact either of Silicon Valley’s enrollment directors:

Book Awards

The Dartmouth Club Book Award Program, begun in 1977, has grown from sixteen alumni clubs presenting 90 books to high school sophomores and juniors to 84 participating clubs presenting over 900 books. This program is a very effective enrollment tool and promotes the name of Dartmouth College among the high school students residing in the various participating club areas.

The DAASV currently presents 26 Book Awards to promising high school juniors in the greater Silicon Valley. It is our goal to have individual alumni sponsor as many book awards as possible. If you have questions, or are interested in sponsoring an award or two, please contact Book Awards Chairperson.
